- Been out of it for a while?
-
- The A1200 are essencially the same as before, only DD drives, and
- you can get them with or without HD. The HD-s are 2.5 inches.
- The same cpu is used as before. No ram-sockets on the motherboard.

-
- There is no A4000 only the A4000T. It now has SCSi and IDE and
- comes with an 1GB HD. Otherwise it is mostly the same.
-
-
- These are not new machines, really. They were made to satisfy
- the built up need in the marked.
-
- The new machines from AT are what's new:
-
- 1. The Amiga Walker (to be given another name later I think)
-
- It's not revolutionary in terms of speed, but is radical in
- design, both expernally and internally.
-
- Externally it looks like a vacuumcleaner or bowlingbag or radio
- or something. I like it. It is sais to have an expandable case,
- so it is small at start, and if you need it, you can add sections
- to make room for more HD-s etc.
-
- Keyboard and mouse connectors are in the font!!!!
-
- Hurray!!!!!!!
-
-
-
- Internally it still has an 68ec030, but clocked at 40MHz, almost
- double my A4000. Simm-sockets on the motherboard expandable to
- 128MB (nice).
-
- Comes with CD-ROM standard!!! (very nice).
-
- Uses standard IBM-compatible floppydrives, hopefully reading all
- the MS-DOS and Amiga formats. This most certainly breaks all old
- floppy-drivers like trackdisk.device, hard-coded games and such,
- and makes the machine cheaper. I like it.
-
- Uses common IO chips for serial and parallell IO. Has two
- parallell ports, following the standards set by Intel (et al.),
- so we can use all those juicy periferals like parallellport
- ethernet and scanners. It also means that serial IO should be a
- bit faster.
-
- Has a new type of expasion port, targeted for graphics-card,
- accelerators, and slots. I think this means that there are no
- slots in the machine from the start, and if you need one, you
- have to buy an expansion card like you have in the A4000 (but not
- the same card). This means that the machine has a lower
- starting-price, but any zorro- or PCI-slots costs money. Not at
- all sure about this, just writing it so somebody can correct me
- and tell me otherwise.
-
- The HD-interface is E-IDE (4 IDE drives).
-
- On the other hand, the specs are all over the web. I'll
- check....
-
- look at <http://www.doremi.co.uk/walker/>
-
- The amiga Web Directory is a good place to look for news, also.
-
-
- Hope this answers your question.
